Recently Envision was asked to address the Civil Engineering students at Queensland University of Technology (QUT) on the subject of driving Construction Project Efficiency with data from a Lean perspective.
University lecturer Can Kutan, and +20 students learnt about the high cost of construction projects, and that delayed decision making, poor documentation, poor communication and poor planning & scheduling is a significant cause of construction overruns and productivity losses. Processes currently bound to the use of paper and spreadsheets are the culprits.
Digitalising these processes and improving the “speed of data” will enable improved (data-driven) management decisions and will go a long way to addressing these issues.
Following questions around data security, data sovereignty and change management where an inciteful addition to the discussion.
At the conclusion, we were invited to return to address future students and also open discussions about supporting the program in other ways.
